Invisalign Care Instructions from Dr. Robbins

Hey, Dr. Robbins here. It was great seeing you today. We are so excited to see your smile transform with Invisalign and want to ensure you are set for success! Here are 8 quick tips for you to care for your new Invisalign aligners.

Tip 1: Follow Your Schedule

Wear each aligner for 1 week in ascending order. Be sure to download the “My Invisalign App” so you can track your progress and get aligner change reminders!

Tip 2: Wear Time Requirements

Wear each tray for at least 22 hours a day. The only time they should be removed is while eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. You may drink water ONLY while wearing the trays.

Tip 3: Proper Removal Technique

To remove your aligners, use your fingers, starting on both sides of your back teeth and slowly work your way toward the front. DO NOT use any sharp objects to remove the aligners.

Tip 4: Storage and Protection

After removal, rinse immediately with water, shake off the excess, and store your aligners in the case provided to protect them from damage or loss.

Tip 5: Daily Cleaning

To keep your aligners clean day-to-day, use a soft bristle toothbrush with a small amount of toothpaste, focusing on brushing inside the tray and rinse thoroughly with water. DO NOT use denture cleaners or soak them in mouthwash. These products can stain the aligners, causing them to become dull and more visible.

Tip 6: Maintain Oral Hygiene

Proper oral hygiene is a must! Brush and floss your teeth after each meal or snack prior to re-inserting your aligners.

Tip 7: Correct Placement

Make sure you have the proper aligner for the upper or lower teeth. Each tray will be numbered and stamped with either a “U” for upper or an “L” for lower. You may insert either one first. Gently push the aligner into place. DO NOT BITE your aligners into position, as this may damage them.

Tip 8: Emergency Protocol

If your current aligner is lost, loose, or broken, please call our office for instructions. Be sure to use the Survival kit and guide we’ve provided.
