4 Best Vitamins for Teeth and Gums

Good oral health starts at home. Eating the right foods and taking vitamin supplements can help your teeth and gums stay healthy and strong.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C supports collagen, which is needed for healthy gums and a beautiful smile. You can find vitamin C in citrus and other fruits. Eating some of these foods each day will help your gums stay healthy and strong. However, it’s important to note that too much vitamin C can cause diarrhea. But taking just a small amount every day can help maintain your gum health. It also helps prevent gingivitis!

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is good for your teeth because it promotes calcium absorption, which is necessary for maintaining strong teeth and healthy gums. It is also important for your bones because it helps regulate phosphorus levels, making them less likely to soften or weaken over time.

Getting enough vitamin D from your diet can be a challenge. The best sources for it are fatty fish like wild salmon and tuna, egg yolks, fortified dairy products, and mushrooms. However, these aren’t always convenient options, especially if you don’t eat many animal products. That’s why taking a supplement can be a good idea.

Talk to your dentist about what brand they recommend and take as directed. They may recommend a higher dose if you are deficient.

If you’re already taking vitamin D supplements and you don’t want to stop, be sure to talk to your doctor about doing so safely before you do so. Too much can cause other health problems, such as kidney stones and bone softening. Your doctor will be able to tell you how much it is safe for you to take based on your age, current vitamin D level, and other factors.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is an antioxidant that helps fight gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease. This antioxidant helps increase the production of antibodies that fight off infection-causing bacteria that can cause gingivitis. Vitamin A can be found in carrots, sweet potatoes, cantaloupes, broccoli, eggs, and liver.

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is responsible for helping your body form bone. This vitamin is essential for good tooth health as well. It helps prevent tooth decay by helping calcium bind to the teeth, which helps harden them and keep them clean. It also helps to prevent periodontal disease by controlling inflammation in the gums. An adequate amount of vitamin K is needed to maintain proper gum health and prevent gum disease. A deficiency in this vitamin can result in swollen or bleeding gums. It can also result in tooth loss.

The easiest way to get an adequate amount of this essential vitamin is through food consumption. Some of the best foods to eat that are high in vitamin K are kale, broccoli, spinach, carrots, cabbage, leeks, lettuce, collard greens, brussel sprouts, and many more. These green vegetables are great additions to any diet to help achieve optimal oral health.

In addition to eating these foods on a regular basis, you can also supplement your diet with a dose of vitamins each day with a multivitamin. This is an easy and effective way to get what your skin needs to protect your teeth and maintain healthy gums.
